A Clifftop Elopement on the Isle of Skye

Today’s elopement is from one of our amazing Adventure Wedding Collective members, Lynne Kennedy Photography, who is an incredible elopement photographer based in one of the most beautiful places in Europe (possibly even the world) – the Isle of Skye.

We met for the first time about 20 years ago. Wolfgang was 16 years old and I was 18 years old then. I was friends with his two older brothers and one evening they brought him with them to our favourite pub. That is how we saw each other for the first time. From the beginning, we got along very well. There was a special connection between us, nevertheless, it took about 7 years until we became a couple.

The proposal was associated with a few problems – Wolfgang considered for about a year how to make the proposal. Originally he wanted one of our cats to “help him with the proposal”, but it seemed too dangerous that the cats would disappear with the ring, so finally he decided to surprise me with a trip to a spa and to make the proposal there. Unfortunately, a few days before the trip should take place he had an accident with the circular saw and so he was not sure if he would be able to do the trip but his doctor said that it was okay and so he made the proposal at our trip.

We had already booked our Roadtrip through Scotland when Wolfgang made the proposal. I suggested spontaneously that we marry in Scotland and Wolfgang was also immediately enthusiastic about that idea. Although we had not been to Scotland before, both of us has always been attracted to the landscape and the culture of Scotland. After our arrival there, we knew that it was the right decision to choose Scotland for our marriage, because both of us felt immediately connected to the country, especially to the Isle of Skye. It almost felt like coming home for us. We even think about moving to Scotland when we are retired.

We found our celebrant Sonja on the internet and she recommended us our photographer Lynne and so on.

To travel is a big passion of us both and so it was great for us to marry during a Roadtrip. It was important for us that the ceremony is very intimate and just for the two of us. We wanted the ceremony reflects who we are and our relationship with each other.

For us, it´s not possible to choose just one favourite moment from the day, because there were so many special moments. For example, it rained the whole night before our wedding and we were afraid that we can´t do the ceremony outside- it was a special moment for us, when the rain stopped exactly when we got up in the morning. It was great how warmly we were welcomed by Sonja and Lynne and how they made us feel comfortable. Another special moment was the intimate and warmly ceremony held by Sonja in the breathtaking setting at a ruin by the sea. It was also fantastic to travel around the Isle of Skye with our absolutely wonderful photographer Lynne. And last but not least, our private dinner at our accommodation with a view of the sea consisting of a very delicious frozen pizza.

If we could do it all again, we won´t do a single thing differently.

They should shape the day exactly how they want it to be. They should not try to satisfy everybody else’s ideas ( like family and friends), because it´s the day of the couple.

Because we married in the middle of our Roadtrip through Scotland, this trip was also our Honeymoon.
