5 Reasons To Elope In The Dolomites

The Italian Dolomites are home to some of the most beautiful mountain peaks and alpine lakes in the world. If you want to elope in Europe and surround yourselves with some of the most breathtaking scenery you’ve ever seen, then the Dolomites simply must be on your shortlist. While I could talk about how epic the Dolomites are for hours on end, today I’ll just start with 5 reasons why you should consider the Dolomites for your elopement.

Five Reasons To Elope In The Dolomites

1. They Are Beautiful In Every Season

Some locations lend themselves to summer or winter, but the Dolomites are amazing all year round. In the winter you’ll find some of the most picturesque ski resorts you’ve ever seen. Even if you’re not a skier or snowboarder, you’ll find yourself in a stunning wintery landscape that’s simply picture perfect. And in the summer you’ll be spoiled by turquoise mountain lakes and jagged mountain peaks.

2. You Don’t Need To Be Super Adventurous To Enjoy Them

Even though I love hiking, climbing and skiing with couples on their elopement days, I understand that not every couple wants a massive adventure on their wedding day. The Dolomites are amazingly accessible, meaning you don’t have to have a hike for miles to get amazing views. There are so many incredible locations a stone’s throw away from the roadside. Some of the most popular locations such as Lago di Braies and the Tre Cime can be reached by car or using a mountain lift.

3. You Can Combine Luxury & Adventure

You’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to finding somewhere to stay. The Dolomites are full of incredible wellness hotels that combine amazing food, stunning views and spa areas that you’ll never want to leave. During the day you can be out exploring and getting dirty boots and messy hair but come home every evening to a place you can’t help but relax and enjoy.

4. They Are Easy To Get To

Despite being in Italy, the best places to fly in to for the Dolomites are generally Innsbruck (Austria) or Munich (Germany), as well as Milan in Italy. Whilst there is public transport operating around the Dolomites, some areas may have limited connections, but if you’ve got a hire car, you’ll be able to get almost everywhere. The mountain passes are amazing to drive, just be prepared to take double as long to get anywhere as you’ll be pulling over every few miles to take pictures. Even in the winter time, the roads are kept mostly clear from snow and ice, and snow chains will only be required if it’s snowing heavily and can’t be cleared right away.

5. You Can Still Find Quiet Locations For An Intimate Ceremony

Whilst some of the most popular locations in the Dolomites have become quite crowded thanks to their “Instagramability”, there are still so many amazing locations that can offer you breathtaking views and the privacy to say your vows to one another without anyone else around. I recommend working with a local expert, like myself, to help guide you on finding the best location for your intimate ceremony. Of course, there’s no reason why you can’t visit some of the “greatest hits of the Dolomites” afterwards if you want to. But you’ll probably find that once you’ve discovered your own little piece of the Dolomites with nobody else around, you won’t want to leave it!
