Hiking Elopement in the Italian Dolomites

Every now and then a submission lands in our inbox that truly takes our breath away. But not because of stylish dresses or elaborate decor – quite the opposite in fact. These two incredible brides held their very intimate elopement in the Italian Dolomites, with just their backpacks and an experienced adventure photographer – Maddie of Adventure Instead.

Dolomites Elopement with Two Brides

Julie & Kristyl had their elopement in the Italian Dolomites—and let me tell you, this is one of my favorite places in the world. The mountains are stunning, like nothing you’ve ever seen with their craggy rocks, tall jagged spires, and adorable little towns scattered between. Besides the scenery, the food makes it incredible too. A mix of German, Swiss, Italian, and Austrian. I’m ALL about it.

On their elopement day, I met Julie & Kristyl at their Airbnb, and they were well prepared with a backpack stocked with a baguette, wine and a bouquet. What else could you need? We began with a gondola ride up into the mountains, and as we climbed in elevation and got that first view of the mountain ranges…we were in awe. And SO excited to explore.

We hiked around up there, did lots of exploring, and Julie & Kristyl chose their ceremony location spontaneously. To change into their wedding clothes, they each hid behind separate rocks and got dressed. Their first look was so exciting & emotional – it really got the ceremony going.

Julie & Kristyl chose to elope just the two of them. BUT, one of their best friends—who is also a wedding officiant—recorded a personalized ceremony just for them. They listened to the recording (for the first time) and the ceremony was super emotional, unique, and full of laughs. Their wedding was just them, surrounded by incredible scenery.

After their ceremony, we were having so much fun exploring these stunning mountains, we decided to stay past dark. But staying past dark meant we had to hike down instead of riding the gondola. Perfect example of why I love Julie & Kristyl—they are down for any adventure!

As the sun began to set, they popped a bottle of celebratory champagne – cheering to their life together. On our hike down, we found a super romantic picnic spot where Julie & Kristyl enjoyed their wine and baguette while they read handwritten letters from their families.

This day was absolutely perfect. The kind of day I would relive over and over again.
